Rare Beer Brewed Exclusively for Oktoberfest 2025
Munich, Germany - Oktoberfest enthusiasts have something truly special to look forward to in 2025. A limited-edition, small-batch beer, meticulously aged in oak barrels, will be available exclusively at a select few of the iconic beer tents during the festival. This unique brew, tentatively named "Eichengold" (Oak Gold), is the brainchild of a collaboration between the Augustiner-Keller brewery and a renowned Bavarian master brewer, Hans-Peter Schmidt, known for his innovative takes on traditional German brewing styles.

Oak barrels aging Eichengold in a Bavarian beer cellar
The beer, a Märzen style lager, boasts a higher than average alcohol content of 6.8% ABV and is crafted using locally sourced Hallertau hops and a unique blend of three different malts: Pilsner, Munich, and Vienna. What truly sets Eichengold apart, however, is its aging process. After the initial fermentation, the beer is transferred to hand-selected oak barrels previously used to age Bavarian single malt whiskey. This process imparts subtle notes of vanilla, caramel, and a hint of spice, creating a complex and refined drinking experience.
"We wanted to create something truly special for Oktoberfest 2025, a beer that honors tradition while also pushing the boundaries of what's possible," explained Schmidt during a press conference held earlier this week at the Augustiner-Keller brewery. "The oak barrel aging adds a level of sophistication and depth that you simply don't find in your average Oktoberfest beer. We believe Eichengold will be a memorable experience for those lucky enough to try it."
Production of Eichengold is strictly limited. Only 1500 barrels (approximately 465,000 liters) have been brewed, representing just 0.05% of the total beer consumed during the average Oktoberfest. This scarcity is expected to drive significant demand, with festival-goers already expressing considerable interest online.

A Maß of Eichengold in a traditional stein
According to sources within the Oktoberfest organization, Eichengold will be available at only four select beer tents: the Augustiner-Festhalle, the Hacker-Pschorr-Festhalle, the Hofbräu-Festzelt, and the Schottenhamel tent. Each tent will receive a limited allocation, distributed throughout the festival. Pricing is expected to be premium, with a Maß (one-liter stein) of Eichengold anticipated to cost around €18.50, a significant increase from the average €14.50 for standard Oktoberfest beer.
"We understand the price point is higher than usual," stated a representative from the Augustiner brewery, who wished to remain anonymous. "But the brewing process, the aging, and the limited quantities all contribute to the higher cost. We believe the exceptional quality justifies the price, and we're confident that beer enthusiasts will appreciate the unique experience."
Whether Eichengold will become a new Oktoberfest tradition remains to be seen. But with its innovative brewing process, limited availability, and promising flavor profile, it is certainly poised to be one of the most talked-about beers of Oktoberfest 2025. Festival attendees are advised to arrive early at the participating tents to secure their chance to taste this rare and exclusive brew.
